A Guide

POSTED 6/5/2025

Then, if He is the North Star, the Holy Spirit is your compass, and the compass will only point to the North Star.
 Brother Branham 63-1201M

We hope you enjoy this fun and simple project that reminds us of our North Star and Guide.

Before we get started, let’s pray… (Call on a student to pray.)

Sword Drills

St. John 15:26
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

St. John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

St. John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Now all of those Scriptures of the Prophet that we just did for our Sword drills have something in common...They all talk about our ---? (Guide). We’re going to be learning about our guide today, and what took place on Hurricane Mountain. Brother Branham describes everything that happened to him on that trip so vividly on the tape A Guide, and you feel like you were really there! Ok, let’s dig into our lesson!

Video 1

Do any of you know what it means to be a typologist?
Typology is the way Brother Branham preached a lot of times to help us understand things. For example, when he preached about a flower, how it raises in the spring but then in the fall it dies-- but come spring, it rises again. Well, that’s a type of the resurrection. The death, burial, and resurrection. One day we’ll rise again too even though one day we have to die.

Well in the tape, A Guide, Brother Branham is teaching us in a type. He compares the spiritual Guide to a natural guide. We have to read between the lines when he’s talking about being guided. You can hear what he’s saying about what the Guide actually is, Who you’re following, and also how to follow the Guide. Now, that’s very important to know too.

Did you all know Brother Branham was a guide? Where was he a guide at? (ask a student)That’s right, he spent many years of his life in Colorado as a guide.
His grandfather was a half-Indian and he had instinct to know where he was no matter where he was at any time. Brother Branham thought he was a real woodsman, which he was.

A guide can take you in the wilderness, to take you…
•Hunting
•Fishing
•Hiking and anything out in the mountains and the woods.

But he can’t just take off and be somebody that thinks he knows what he’s doing.
•He’s got to be equipped.
•He’s got to be trained.
•He’s got to know how to get there and the best way to get there.
•His life and your life are in his hands.
• He’s got to be able to bring you out of that wilderness alive if you go with him.
•He’s responsible for your safety.

So, you can’t just go into the woods with anybody. You’ve got to trust this person.

Now spiritually, how much more important is it to trust and know who your guide is? The spiritual type here in the tape that Brother Branham was referring to is you must know who we want to guide us spiritually. You’re going to follow someone. It’s very important to know and be sure who you’re following is someone that is equipped and a true guide.

Now, let’s take a journey to upstate New York in the Adirondack Mountains.

So, Brother Branham cheated a little bit on his honeymoon and made it a hunting trip, too. But Sister Meda and little Billy Paul didn’t mind. It would be fall and the leaves would be beautiful.

Video 3

… the death walk. Now that’s when you just walk in circles and don’t know where you’re at. It’s a real bad place to be. A man when he’s lost takes a gun and just shoots himself. To be lost is death. Now, that’s the natural. But the spiritual is the same thing. To be spiritually lost is death too.

Video 4

So, Brother Branham continued walking and he thought he heard, “I’m a very present Help in a time of trouble.” Now think about that, he thought he heard That. It was that same Voice he’s heard his entire life, but in that state of bewilderment he just shrugged off his Guide and kept walking.
He kept going, whistling. He thought, “I’m not lost. I’m too good of a hunter. I’ve been a guide all my life. I am not lost. I can do this; my daddy was a woodsman.” You know, kind of trying to bluff himself that he can do it, that he wasn’t lost.

Now did that ever happen to you?
Did the Guide try to tell you don’t lie, but you really didn’t want to get in trouble so you lied anyway?

What about taking a test and your mom left the teacher’s answers right there for you to see and you just tried to open it up and look. “Oh, there’s the answers...” and you write them down? Were you listening to your Guide or were you just trying to bluff yourself out of it like, “It’ll be okay. She left the answers right here for me to see.”

So, he continued along. And the snow and the wind was blowing and it was cold. The storm was upon him, and he knew his wife and baby were down there at that lean-to, waiting on him.

But then, he heard it again.

Now we’re human and we make mistakes. But every day we’re in training. How? (Ask students.)

•By hearing the tapes of our Guide.
•By reading our Bibles.
•By praying.

There it was again. “I’m a very present Help in the time of trouble.” He thought, “Is that God speaking to me?” Then he realized this time, it was God speaking to him. And in his humility, in that snow and that wind and cold, he took off his hat, he took off his coat, and he knelt down and prayed to the Lord. And said, “Lord, I’m lost. I don’t know where I’m at. I’m not a woodsman. I’m not a hunter. I’m nothing, Lord. I need You. I’ve got to have You. I’m nobody.” And he had to pray and admit to the Lord, in humility, that he needed the Lord.

Video 6

Can you imagine having the Lord’s hand touch your shoulder, look up, and the fog cleared just enough so you could see that tower on Adirondack Mountain and know which direction you’re going in.

Thank the Lord He was a very present help in the time of trouble. When Brother Branham saw that tower, he knew if he could get to that line. He put his hand up and held it all the way up through miles, hiking, changing hands. Left and right hand until he caught that wire. And once he did, he knew where he was at. And he had that! That was his lifeline!

Today we have a lifeline too, and that’s the voice of Brother Branham. Thank the Lord for his ministry and for being our guide and for giving us that example of humility that we have to have to follow our Leader.
